Concept and Development
After working for Fritzing for a long time, gathering experience in creating Hardware-Kits and teaching in numerous workshops I realized that there was a missing link between the hardware scene and schools. For even the most enthusiastic teachers it was difficult to find useful teaching materials on that subject.
In a workshop with the great people of StartCoding and the TV moderator Ranga Yogeshwar who was preparing a large conference for teachers it became obvious to me that I had to create materials. I founded StartHardware.org.
The online course is structured in 20 lectures. Every lecture is building a project. Interested students can read further information on specific topics. Illustrations are used to make it easy to follow. Complex topics are compared to known objects like LEGO bricks or boxes.
In addition to the online course and to make the business sustainable I created the StartHardware Kit. It contained everything needed to start and was delivered in a bread box – a component proving its ability to survive in a school bag every day. It was assembled and provided by Tinkersoup, my business partner at this time.
StartHardware.org on Youtube
Of course, YouTube is a thing this days and so it was obvious to me that I had to produce content on that platform. Since I was already experienced in doing it was just a piece of cake and a lot of fun.
